The Pilgrims were rural people trying to live in an industrial city. The Europeans did not introduce horror and ugliness. The native peoples were practicing cannibalism (supposedly including a shipwrecked Dutch sailor in Florida who was eaten by the Timucua people), slavery and even scalping before the Europeans arrived The Iroquois Confederacy had a big battle every year against an alliance of Algonquin peoples and those captured were tortured to death. But nothing about how they grabbed the land Native Americans lived for thousands of years on.
